Invercargill Vegan Society

INVSOC stands for more than a simple abbreviation of “INvercargill Vegan SOCiety” :-)

veg·an/vegan/

Noun: A person who does not eat or use animal products. ”

We stand for Veganism, we are Vegans who promote Veganism as being fun, easy, and the *least* other animals deserve, not to be seen as “things”, as an “it”, but respected as our friends.

While there are environmental, economical and health benefits for Veganism, we agree that ethical reasons take priority.

We kill over 56 Billion land animals each year*, why?  Tradition, “we grew up doing this”?  Perceived pleasure, “I like doing this”?  Do these trump other sentient beings right to live?

We “use” other animals for their female bodies, a Cow for her breast milk, a Hen for her birds eggs, each products of her reproductive cycle.  They all end up the same way, killed, and “thrown out” when their bodily secretion “production” lowers with age.

The animals we keep alive for “eggs” and “milk” also have their bodies sold for flesh, “meat”.  We kill over 49 Billion Chickens each year*,why would we ever want to hurt our Chicken Friends?
